Subject Leader Development Pack

One of the casualties of the Covid crisis, in many schools, has been the inability to arrange professional development for staff.

Prior to the first lockdown, a priority for many schools was further development of subject leaders and those with other areas of responsibility.

The reason for this focus was largely due to the greater emphasis on the role of subject leaders within the school inspection framework.

We do deliver some 3-day subject leader courses but recognise that for many schools these are not possible to access due to limited locations; time commitment and the cost of cover whilst budgets are desperately stretched.

We have therefore put together another of our resource packs to support schools in their work to develop their teams.

As ever, we’ve created our documents in ‘Word’ and ‘Powerpoint’ so that you can personalise them to your own context. We ask that you don’t ‘share’ these materials beyond your school – they take us a lot of time to prepare and it’s how we make our living!!

The cost for the pack is £150. Click here to complete an order form.

We hope it helps!

The Subject Leader pack contains:

  • A short powerpoint presentation on the changing role of the subject leader
  • A set of questions for subject leaders to respond to. Teachers need to be able to ‘articulate with confidence’ information about their subjects. Our experience of using these with many schools is that it may be useful for staff to reflect and write some concise responses prior to presenting information about their subject. This avoids the ‘putting them on the spot’ situation and tends to deepen their answers. (an additional set of questions for EYFS leaders and SENDcos reflecting the different responsibilities of these roles)
  • A list of our expectations of subject leaders – written in response to a question from a teacher.
  • A sample and a blank subject improvement plan
  • A plan to write an intent, implementation and impact statement for a subject
  • A subject audit proforma
  • Our suggestions for the contents of a subject file.
  • A sample progression map that also works for basic assessment of a foundation subject
